In the fourth of our review series, we decided to attend the establishment of Blue Goose, in Mimico on May 8, 2003. But they were closed for a movie shot so we hit Jack Astors (address above).
Our visit commenced at approximately 9pm, where we were seated right away at a cozy booth. The restaurant, as always, had a garage, cozy, fun atmosphere to it, with young staff and a young clientele. It seemed as though all the young hot women who were shopping at Sherway decided to drop in for some dinner at Jack Astors - bonus to us. The service was great, as always, friendly and such.
The beer mugs arrived, and were frosted and cold. The pitcher of beer, although overpriced (as is the norm), was tasty son (Rickards Red). We then promptly ordered the wings - two double orders: one hot, one medium. The wings came with a house blue cheese dressing (lots of mayo), and with nice large vegetables. And some sauce (restaurant sace?).
The expense of the restaurant was relatively high - our final tally was $60 (tax and tip included). The pitchers of Rickards was nearly $16 (very high), and the wings, although very good, were small and the price to size was thus low. The price for 1 lb (8 wings) was $7.98 (fairly high), and for 2 lbs (16 wings) was $14.99 (1 dollar difference). But we left the restaurant still hungry. Unfortunately, we then became sugar junkies. And some heroin.

Cozy little atmosphere, I should say. And will say. No matter how many times I go there, I like having the doctor's office examination table paper laid out as our table cloth. Jack's also gave us crayons for an unending source of comedy and our server was great.
I liked the wings initially, but as they cooled off they began to taste WAY too deep fried and greasy. There wasn't enough sauce, but what was there was good. They were pretty durned small, which made them taste even MORE deep fried. AND EXPENSIVE.
Probably the best part of Jack's wings is the blue cheese sauce, which is thick (not thin) and blue cheesy. It's got balls. Puts hair on yours.

Jack Ators is a great restaurant, I've been here many a time, for fun and some frolick, but never for a full and complete wing experience. Does it work as a restaurant yes, does it work for wings, kind of. The wings came post hast with pitcher of frothy with the headless horseman when poured correctly, and at first taste mmmmm sweet son, we ordered extra sauce, but I could hardly see any, but for some reason the sauce was soaked in the wing, very tastey for the first 5 minutes, but unfortunatley the wings cooled and I as well as the other wing men suddenly felt like we had been transported to KFC, man the grease in these wings could style your hair, not cozy, and then the bill came. Gasp, it's like I spend a lot of money to gain weight and still be hungry, Overall Jack Astor's made for a great outing, but a very mediocre wing experience

The service was great, the staff was young and the women all hot. So that was good. Great atmosphere and great place to party with a groups of friends. We sat at a cozy booth, surrounded by young hot women so that was great. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a bit pricey. Mind you, it's not a university pub (remember Einsteins?!?!), but still, pricey. The wings were pretty good, but were too greasy. But they had certain spices that made them pretty tasty, and the texture was rather good. There was not enough hot sauce on the wings, and they were very small. The blue cheese dressing was very good - but contained more mayo than actual blue cheese. This restaurant treats wings more as an appatizer rather than a meal (i..e. Einsteins), so they don't put their best effort into it. Good wings though, and great atmosphere, which makes the wing ambiance higher. If it were just the wings and no restaurant, the wings would gain a much lower mark. The price to size ratio was pretty bad - small wings and pricey, so that was a downer. But on the whole, an average wing experience.
